Is Ylläs a good place to see the northern lights?
Ylläs is one of the best places in Finland for the aurora. Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi are small villages next to Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, so real darkness is never far away. On a clear night the northern lights can fill the whole sky above the fells.
Do you pick up from both Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi?
Yes, we pick up from accommodation in the Ylläs area. Tell us where you are staying when you book and we will confirm the pickup point and time.
Is the Ylläs tour the same as the Levi tour?
It is the same northern lights hunt, and guests from Ylläs and Levi may share the evening. Only the pickup point differs. Being able to drive in both directions helps us find the clear sky.
When is the aurora season in Ylläs?
From late August to early April. Autumn aurora over the lakes is magical, mid-winter gives the longest nights, and March often combines active skies with comfortable temperatures.
What other winter activities are there in Ylläs?
Ylläs is known for cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing in the national park, husky and reindeer safaris. For the evenings, join our aurora hunt.
